CHINESE ASSOCIATION is a member-focused, community-based organization. It has made great strides in representing Chinese American interests in Iowa.
District associations, modeled on clan affiliations in China, provided social support networks that filled gaps that government agencies and charities could not. They found jobs for new arrivals and cared for the sick and poor.
The CCBA’s Mission
CCBA’s mission is to create awareness, inform, educate, support and welcome newcomers to Davis, assist students through scholarships, provide cultural, social, educational and community programs, and to celebrate the diversity of Chinese culture.
Organized in the era of clan affiliations in China, many immigrant groups formed associations based on family names, cities of origin and professions to help each other in their new communities. Look for the names of relatives among the rolls of these organizations to learn more about their lives in America.
To promote and enhance the development of high quality and sustainable Chinese language learning and teaching in the United States by providing leadership to teachers, administrators, and schools. Facilitate the exchange of expertise and ideas. Promote quality scholarship that includes theoretical and empirical research. Develop and disseminate state-of-the-art resources for Chinese language learning and teaching.

It is now one of the largest and most active Chinese community organizations in the Capital District, providing a variety of services to over 1000 families.

The CCBA is an umbrella organization of more than 60 member organizations including professional and trade associations; civic and community development groups; women’s, cultural, and religious organizations; and family organizations.
