When the western world began to impose sanctions against China after the Tiananmen massacre in 1989, Beijing looked first to its Asian neighbors for support. These countries had a different view of China than the west did and saw China as an Asian country that shared their own traditions and values.
History
The CHINESE ASSOCIATION is the largest professional Chinese organization in the United States. Its membership includes professionals from all fields, including science and technology, education, business, law, medicine, art and many other areas.
The organization was founded in New York City in 1992. Its mission is to promote understanding between ethnic Chinese and Americans through educational and cultural activities.
ACA is a non-profit, non-political, professional organization. Its members have advanced degrees in science and technology, education, business, law, Medicine, arts and many other areas.
ACA has been involved in several historic and important issues. These include the Vincent Chin murder, the fight for racial justice and civil rights for Chinese Americans, and the establishment of a bilingual education program in San Francisco.
Purdue University Undergraduate Chinese Association (UCA)
The Purdue University Undergraduate Chinese Association (UCA) is a student-led organization. It is a nonpolitical and voluntary organization that promotes Chinese cultural heritage, understanding and multicultural exchange among undergraduate students at Purdue University.
The UCA has a variety of programs and activities for its members to get involved with, such as service projects, fundraising, and community outreach. It also provides a social platform for Chinese students to interact with their peers outside of China.
Its mission is to improve the overall education of its members and their involvement in Purdue University campus life, while promoting Purdue pride.
Over the past few years, the number of Chinese undergraduate students at universities like Purdue has skyrocketed. These students are younger and more likely to face challenges in their classrooms, especially when it comes to English-language ability.
Chinese Association for Science and Technology (CAST)
CAST, as the bridge that links the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government to China’s science and technology community, maintains close ties with millions of scientists, engineers and other professionals. Since its inception, CAST has been a major contributor to China’s scientific and technological development and popularization of science and technology.
In 1982, CAST launched a national high-tech research program that has become one of the most successful government-led S&T initiatives. This program has pooled small numbers of excellent researchers to conduct frontier-oriented research in selected high-tech fields, narrowing China’s gaps with developed nations, stimulating S&T advances in relevant fields, nurturing new generation of high-caliber technological talents and forming foundations for the future of China’s high-tech industry and social development.
CAST’s mission is to support the prosperity and development of science and technology, to popularize science and technology among the public, and to develop large numbers of professional talents. It also supports the education of the next generation of Chinese citizens.
Nebraska Chinese Association (NCA)
The Nebraska Chinese Association (NCA) is a non-profit organization that keeps Chinese culture alive in the Omaha area. The group offers language classes and cultural activities to residents. It also works closely with local Chinese Students Associations at Creighton University and the University of Nebraska Medical Center, as well as several local corporations.
The NCA recently hosted a New Year’s Gala at the Orpheum Theater, which included a show-stopping performance by Chinese performers. The event was a celebration of Asian history, traditions and music.
NCA members are committed to preserving Chinese heritage, which is important to the state’s long history. It’s also committed to social justice, working to make sure AAPI residents have access to resources.
The organization also supports elderly Chinese Americans, ensuring they have access to health care services and help with immigration paperwork. They also provide community outreach programs and work to strengthen ties between the Chinese American and other communities in the state.
