The Chinese Community in the United States

The first major survey of the Chinese community in America was conducted by the Committee of 100 on 25 April 2001. A subsequent survey was conducted in September 2007, and the results showed a similar trend. In addition to the surveys, there are a number of books that give insight into the culture and identity of Chinese Americans. The Committee of one hundred also published Becoming a New American and The Multilingual Apple. Nevertheless, this study is not a comprehensive one.

Chinese community

The U.S. Census Bureau’s 2017 American Community Survey reports revealed that nearly two million Chinese live and work in the New York Metropolitan Area (NYC), Long Island, and the surrounding areas in Connecticut, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. This is the largest concentration of Chinese people outside of China.
